Position Summary

The Senior Process Control Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation,

maintenance, and optimization of process control systems. The role focuses on improving

safety, reliability, and operational efficiency through effective use of the Emerson DeltaV

Distributed Control System (DCS) and advanced control strategies. The engineer will work

closely with operations, maintenance, and process engineering teams to enhance plant

performance, reduce variability, and support refinery projects and digitalization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Process Control & Automation

  • Design, configure, and maintain control strategies within the Emerson DeltaV DCS

environment.

  • Develop, test, and implement regulatory control schemes for refinery process units.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process control issues affecting plant operations.
  • Perform control loop tuning and improve control performance.
  • Manage and implement control system changes in accordance with Management of

Change (MOC) procedures.

System Optimization

  • Analyze process data to identify opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Develop and implement advanced control strategies such as model predictive control

(MPC) or multivariable control.

  • Reduce process variability and improve plant stability and product quality.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for control system performance.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Maintain and troubleshoot DeltaV DCS hardware and software including controllers, I/O

modules, workstations, and networks.

  • Coordinate with instrumentation and electrical teams to ensure proper functioning of

field devices and control loops.

  • Support plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance activities related to

automation systems.

Project Engineering

  • Participate in automation and control system projects including upgrades, migrations,

and new unit installations.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure control systems comply with refinery safety policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in HAZOP, PHA, and risk assessments.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Maintain cybersecurity and integrity of control system infrastructure.

Training & Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior control engineers.
  • Train operators and maintenance staff on control strategies and system functionality.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives in process control.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems

Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in process control engineering within oil refining,

petrochemical, or chemical processing industries

  • DCS experience (Emerson DeltaV preferred, however will consider any previous DCS

experience)
